WS Development acquires 120,000 sq. ft. Tice’s Corner in Woodcliff Lake
One of the country’s largest privately held developers has acquired Tice’s Corner, the upscale 120,000-square-foot shopping center in Woodcliff Lake.
The company, WS Development, paid an undisclosed price for the property at the intersection of Chestnut Ridge Road and Tice Boulevard. It now plans to leverage the center’s existing mix of national users while introducing additional in-demand brands and local businesses across retail, beauty, wellness and dining, the firm said, with future plans that will also include art displays, events, outdoor gathering spaces and other activations and enhancements.
The Massachusetts-based developer noted that Tice’s Corner carries forward the legacy of Tice’s Farms, a local landmark that dates to 1808 and was known throughout Bergen County for its apples, cider, pumpkins and beloved autumn traditions. The former farm site was transformed into Tice’s Corner, which opened in 2001 as an open-air specialty retail center just 30 minutes from Manhattan.
“Tice’s Corner has been part of this community’s story for well over two centuries, first as Tice’s Farms and now as one of Bergen County’s most beloved gathering places,” said Eric Smookler, vice chairman and co-chief investment officer of WS Development. “We’re honored to carry that story forward and excited to bring new energy to a destination that already means so much to the people who call this community home.”
Founded in 1990, WS Development has more than 100 properties spanning urban neighborhoods and vibrant lifestyle centers, according to a news release. Tice’s Corner joins a portfolio of assets across the country that include MarketStreet in Lynnfield, Massachusetts; Hyde Park Village in Tampa, Florida; Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany, New York; and Montgomery Village in Santa Rosa, California.
The Woodcliff Lake center has 28 stores and restaurants spanning fashion, beauty, home, technology and dining, with a mix of national and specialty retailers including Apple, Anthropologie, J.Crew, Free People, Madewell, Athleta, Bluemercury and Ethan Allen, among others.
