Madewell is coming to Hyde Park Village

Madewell, J. Crew’s younger, hipper sister company, is planning a storefront in Hyde Park Village.

The clothing and accessories company will fill 2,603 square feet at 1614 W. Snow Ave., in the village’s new building that’s also home to SoulCycle and apparel retailer Bonobos, according to city building permits.

J. Crew, which has struggled in recent years to attract shoppers in an increasingly crowded apparel market, has a store in Tampa’s International Plaza. Madewell’s clothing is also sold at Nordstrom, one of International Plaza’s anchors. But the Hyde Park Village location would be Madewell’s first location in Tampa Bay.

Madewell has been so much more successful than J. Crew that the retailer’s leadership said earlier this year it was considering spinning Madewell off into its own public company to raise cash.

The developer of Hyde Park, Boston-based WS Development, declined comment.

Since kicking off a major redevelopment of the village in 2014, WS has brought several new-to-market restaurants and retailers to Tampa. Sur La Table, bartaco, Paper Source, Vineyard Vines and SoulCycle have all opened their first locations in the city in Hyde Park Village.
